The Fine Print
- We are not able to offer cash refunds on worn items.
- To take advantage of our product guarantee, items not purchased directly from us must have a receipt or other dated proof of purchase.
- Defective items will be repaired or replaced at our discretion. We prefer to repair defective gear instead of letting it go to a landfill. When we repair your gear, we understand you want it back as soon as possible. Please be patient, though—everyone uses gear when it rains, and peak rainy season repair turnaround times can be 1-3 weeks.
- If we choose to replace your gear, we generally send replacements after we receive your gear first. Likewise, we can only determine whether your gear qualifies for repair or replacement once it is in our possession.
- Shipping charges may apply to customer satisfaction exchanges.
- If you need clarification on whether your gear qualifies for coverage under our policies, contact us at warranty@showerspass.com or 503-203-8000.
- Our goal is always to find a win-win solution.
If your gear is out of warranty and needs repair, contact us. We have helpful resources and can sometimes offer repair services for a fee. We'll do our best to point you in the right direction.
Troubleshooting & Solutions
Wetness and Leaks
As we live, we make body vapor and sweat, overwhelming the abilities of even the best rain gear. Body water vapor can accumulate inside gear faster than it can move through waterproof fabric, causing clamminess and wetness. Here's how to minimize the effects:
- Open vents and loosen cuffs: Using your gear's ventilation system is the most straightforward solution. We equip our jackets and pants with strategically placed vents to help exchange air and adapt to wearers' comfort needs. Vents allow body vapor to escape quickly, helping prevent wetness. Remember that open vents can allow rain to enter your gear, so use vents strategically and balance their use with daily conditions.
- Wash gear regularly: Regular washing is essential to maintaining gear performance and longevity. Accumulated salt and oil from body vapor clogs waterproof fabric and may eventually cause delamination. Wash gear before any long-term storage periods. Frequent daily users can wash gear as often as every six weeks.
- Wash gear using the right products: Use Granger's Performance Wash and other soap-based products. "Free and Clear" liquid detergents are also preferable. Machine wash on cold/gentle or hand wash.
- Do not wash gear using the wrong products: Fabric softeners, oxygenated stain removers, and everyday liquid and powder detergents will damage the gear. Avoid washing gear in shared facilities that use these products. Mistakes happen, and if you accidentally or unknowingly damage your gear from repeatedly using the wrong products, don't fret; our unconditional guarantee covers one-time replacement.
- Please get to know DWR: We treat the exterior of your waterproof gear with Durable Water Repellent (DWR), which helps prevent water from sticking to your gear by staying beaded in droplet form. Over time, DWR will become brushed flat or wear away. Water will stick to your gear, become heavy, and clogged. If this happens, try tumble drying your gear on low heat or reapplying more DWR. We like Granger's Performance Repel Plus, Nikwax TX Direct, Gear Aid Revivex products, and other PFAS-free DWR products designed for outdoor gear.
- Test your gear for leaks in a controlled environment: Use your sink with a faucet sprayer or a shower to simulate rain. Zip your gear closed and place towels inside where you suspect leaking. Carefully wet the outside of your gear, simulate rain, and wait some time. Be careful not to let water in through body openings. Use additional towels to dry the outside of your gear, and carefully remove the towels placed inside to check for signs of leakage.
Zippers, Pockets, and Other Parts
We frequently use heavy-duty water-resistant zippers to keep you extra dry and mesh pockets to keep your gear lightweight and breathable. While these features are great, they can take some getting used to.
- Treat zippers with love: Treat all hardware carefully to maximize your garment's life. If a waterproof zipper feels stiff, don't yank at it angrily. Instead, be patient and thankful that it is doing its part to keep you dry. We have found that a small amount of regular pencil graphite or paraffin wax rubbed on the zipper's teeth is a good lubricant.
- Remove gunk from zippers: Foreign material such as grease or dirt building up in your zipper's tracks is a common cause of zipper problems. Use a wet sponge to spot-treat the zipper, or throw your entire jacket in the washer on a cold, gentle cycle and hang dry.
- If your zipper won't stay zipped: Loose zipper sliders can prevent zippers from staying closed. But don't worry, this is often repairable. Reach out to us for help.
- Mesh pockets and metal objects: Consider storing your keys and tools elsewhere. Pockets are repairable, but losing your keys will make us both sad.
- For any other parts issues, such as draw cords, snaps and buttons, and hook-and-loop fasteners, please contact us for repair options.
Delamination and Deterioration
Your Showers Pass gear should last long and be appropriately cared for. However, extended usage will lead to delamination. Delamination occurs first in high-abrasion contact areas such as the shoulders, neck, and back and is usually caused by accumulated body oil, salt, and dirt.
- Stop it early: If you see the warning signs of delamination, protect the problem spot by keeping it clean and free of abrasive grit. Patching and seam tape can cover delaminated areas.
- Beyond repair: Sometimes, delamination becomes too extensive or happens quickly. If this occurs, it's a sign that your rain gear is no longer waterproof.
Crashes and Damage
First of all, we hope you're doing okay. Hopefully, your gear helped protect you.
- Repair minor tears and holes: Breathe life into your jacket by patching the tear with inexpensive waterproof patching tapes available at most gear shops. We like Gear Aid Tenacious Tape. Treat the patch as a battle wound and wear it with pride.
- Repurpose: If a complete repair is out of the question, consider reassessing the role of your gear. Your trusted wet ride companion makes an excellent windbreaker or your new favorite water-resistant, around-town fashion statement.
Crash Replacement Policy
We know that pavement, tree branches, and puppies can cause severe damage beyond what patching can solve. If your in-warranty Showers Pass gear meets such a fate, we can offer repair or a 30% discount towards a replacement. Give us a call at 503-203-8000 or email warranty@showerspass.com for more information. We reserve the right to request a puppy photo.
